Nirvana Soul is a Silicon Valley-based coffee company, with locations in San Jose, Cupertino, and San Francisco, and a Roastery in North San Jose. Our mission is to bring people together through the power of coffee and tea. 

Team

You'll be joining our team of Roasters and Production Assistants. Together, we roast, package, and deliver awesome coffee. We also keep the roastery and all our gear spick and span, and help the company grow.

Role

As the Production Manager and Roaster, you are responsible for facilitating the roasting, packing, and distribution of coffee, as well as general roastery maintenance. You will work directly with the COO and Director of Coffee to ensure the daily operation of the roastery Monday-Thursday, with the possibility of working on Sundays and Fridays.

Key Responsibilities

Production

• Check platforms for orders

• Input amount under the correct name and weight in the Weekly Coffee Order sheet

• Update and maintain the Weekly Coffee Order sheet as needed

• Assign online orders with accurate shipping details (addresses, container dimensions, weight)

• Print out shipping labels and packing slips

• Label the correct color coffee bags with the appropriate sticker and date

• Sort, weigh, pack, grind (if applicable,) and seal the coffee

• Weigh and input any coffee overages

• Pack the coffee into its corresponding containers and stick the shipping label

• Drop off packages to their designated carriers

• Label fulfilled orders and put aside/on a pallet for deliveries on Friday

• Manage internal staff communication and order inquiries primarily handled via Slack

• Operate a walkie pallet stacker

• Drive the company van and make deliveries when necessary

• Manage daily roastery operations, including cleanliness, supply purchasing (with COO/Director of Coffee approval), alerting COO to out-of-budget/out-of-stock items, and green coffee organization.

• Train new-hires

• Work with Director of Coffee on:

• Roastery tour days (1st Friday of every month, subject to change)

• Roaster cleaning and maintenance

• Quality control on roasted coffee, e.g. cupping

• Collecting data on roasted coffee

Roasting

• Roast when the Head Roaster needs assistance and/or is unavailable

• Weigh out the specified coffee and amount to be lifted into the Loring

• Roast manually or automatically

• Dispense the cooled coffee in the appropriate container with accurate name and date

• Organize it by the production area with the rest of the coffee

What you will need to be successful in this role:

• High degree of analytical skills, and the ability to delegate and be self-directed

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills

• Technically skilled in basic computer systems, including related software

• Alignment with Nirvana Soul’s mission, vision, and core values

• Great teamwork, interpersonal skills, and professionalism 

• A bias for action with a strong record of taking initiative and following through

• Proven leadership skills and the capacity to give direction clearly, effectively, and constructively

Requirements:

• Valid CA Driver’s License

• Available to work Monday - Thursday, with the possibility of working on Sundays and Fridays

• Ability to stand for an extended period of time, walk, reach, and bend to perform job duties

• Ability to move and handle coffee totes up to 70 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

• Coffee knowledge/background

Working Conditions:

• Warehouse conditions (Temperatures can be extreme at times, both hot and cold.)

• Medium noise environment from roaster, mixer, and grinder

• Heavy lifting of up to 70 lbs. plastic totes

• Using a computer, step stools, and ladders
